Why convert glTF to STL?

Slicers want STL. It stores nothing but triangles: no colour, no units, no structure. That is exactly what a printer needs and why every slicer accepts it.

A .gltf is the JSON form of GLB and usually carries textures and materials too. Those cannot travel into this format, so the geometry comes across exactly and the surfaces are dropped. The file has to be the embedded kind: a "glTF Separate" export keeps its geometry in a .bin file beside it, so drop the .glb version of the model instead, or export again as embedded glTF or GLB.

Watch the scale. glTF files are written in metres by convention, while slicers read STL as millimetres, so a 0.9-unit model arrives under a millimetre wide unless it is scaled ×1000. The converter detects this and preselects the right scale.

If the source file is broken, with holes, flipped faces or stray fragments, convert it after repairing it, since a converter carries the same problems across.

Questions

Is the file uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device and there is no size queue or account to create.
What is kept, and what is lost?
Geometry is kept exactly, every triangle and vertex. Materials, textures and colours are not carried across, because STL either cannot store them or would need the texture files alongside it.
Will the model change size?
Dimensions stay as they are unless you pick a scale. The scale selector exists because glTF is written in metres by convention while slicers read millimetres, which is the single most common reason a converted model looks wrong.
Can I drop a different format in?
Yes. The tool reads STL, OBJ, PLY, GLB and embedded glTF whatever page you are on, and works out the format from the file itself rather than its name, so a GLB saved as .stl still opens.
Do I need an account or to sign up?
No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email, and no limit: the tool runs in your browser, so there is nothing to meter. Use it as often as you like, on as many files as you like.
